Effective July 1, 2010, Ontario consumers who elect to purchase or lease a new plug-in hybrid electric or battery electric vehicle will be eligible for an incentive ranging from $5,000 to $8,500 towards their purchase.
What exactly is a battery electric vehicle? A battery electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that is powered by electricity and contains a battery to store energy. There are two main types of EVs: conventional hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and grid-connected vehicles that include plug-in hybrid battery electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) – this includes the Chevrolet Volt.
The value of the incentive is based on the vehicle’s battery capacity with the Volt nearing the top of the range at 16kWh.
And did you know that EV drivers that park in selected GO Transit-owned parking lots will be offered special parking spots where they can plug in for recharging on a first come, first serve basis? To date four GO Transit stations –Aurora, Lincolnville, Centennial andWhitbyhave conduit and cable for recharging facility installation. Additionally, the design of new parking structures or the expansion of parking atOakville, Clarkson,Pickering,Ajaxand Erindale stations will soon accommodate EV recharging facilities.
